July 7th, 2010 Smooth Jazz Network

The release of Brian Culbertson’s next project, XII, is just days away [on July 20] — and he’s explaining the significance to the title:

  • The album is Culbertson’s twelfth.
  • It features 12 songs.
  • He was born on January 12.
  • He’s been married to wife Michelle for 12 years.
  • There are 12 notes to a scale.
  • At age 12, he knew he wanted to be a musician.
  • And the kicker? He told Smooth Jazz News “Every address where I’ve lived has had 1s and 2s in it. 1120. 1220. 211. Dorm room number 210. “

The album features dozens of guest artists including Earl Klugh, Ray Parker Jr., Lenny Castro, Eric Marienthal, Brian McKnight, Nate Watts and Paul Jackson Jr.  Fans have been getting an inside look at the creative process all along, as Culbertson posted an extensive video blog on YouTube.

In his Smooth Jazz News interview, he stated, “So many people don’t really know what it’s like to make a record. If [they] really see what goes into it they’ll have a different perspective and a higher appreciation of what we go through and the hard work that goes into it.”
