Diana Krall Live in Rio on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday

Diana Krall Live in Rio

Going back to the routine after the long holiday weekend won’t be so bad, because on Tuesday you’ll have a new concert video by Diana Krall to look forward to, ‘Live in Rio’. It will be released on both DVD and Blu-ray.

Diana Krall has had a long time fascination with bossa nova, a type of music which perfectly suits her sophisticated yet sensual style. This culminated in her new studio album ‘Quiet Nights’ (released by Verve in spring 2009) and in this stunning concert filmed in the home of the bossa nova, Rio de Janeiro, in November 2008. Accompanied by her band and an orchestra, Diana Krall delivers a superb set of standards in true bossa nova style but clearly bearing her unique stamp. This video captures Diana Krall at her scintillating best.

Live in Rio features Krall with her quartet-Anthony Wilson (guitar), John Clayton (bass) and Jeff Hamilton (drums)-plus a full orchestra on 18 lush, romantic, and evocative songs. This DVD showcases Krall performing standards such as ‘Where Or When,’ ‘Too Marvelous For Words,’ ‘I’ve Grown Accustomed To His Face,’ and Hal David and Burt Bacharach’s ‘Walk On By,’ among others. Many of these tracks are off the Quiet Nights (Verve) CD release, her 12th studio album. What makes this performance so special is that Krall recreates these classics, imbuing them with her unique fusion of jazz, samba, and bossa nova. The bonus feature ‘Conversations’ provides an intimate interview with Diana and her band during their stay in Rio de Janeiro, the city that she credits for inspiring her fascination with these latin styles. Also included is the new video for ‘The Boy From Ipanema.’

The 149-minute Blu-ray includes the aforementioned plus-as a Blu-ray exclusive feature-’The Rooftop Sessions:’ four additional tracks (’The Boy From Ipanema,’ ‘Too Marvelous For Words,’ ‘Cheek To Cheek’ and ‘Quiet Nights’) also filmed in Rio.
