Dave Koz Paying Tribute To His Childhood Friend Daniel Pearl
As part of the annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days during the month of October there will be dedications from the stage by numerous performers around the World. These dedications are meant to bring people closer together in remembrance of Daniel Pearl, the late journalist who was kidnapped, held hostage and killed by extremists in Pakistan in 2002. His widow’s journey to discover his fate was chronicled in the 2007 film A Mighty Heart with Angelina Jolie.
Smooth jazz saxophonist Dave Koz will once again be taking part in the event. Koz and Pearl actually went to the same middle school in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, and later attended rival high schools, Koz at Taft High and Pearl at Birmingham High. During his two shows tonight, October 14, in Boston, Koz will make a dedication from the stage as part of a global network of concerts to promote peace. He’ll make similar dedications October 15 in Birchmere, Va; October 16 in Rehoboth Beach, Del; and later this month in Japan during shows with guitarist Jonathan Butler.
Among the many musicians taking part in the Daniel Pearl World Music Days are Herbie Hancock, Elton John, Dave Matthews, Joshua Bell and Miley Cyrus.
