Quincy Jones, In Bermuda For Festival, Attends Michael Jackson Movie
Quincy Jones, the producer of the Michael Jackson albums Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad, this week attended the Bermuda premiere on Wednesday, October 28, of the Jackson movie This Is It. The movie, which opened on Wednesday, earned $20.1 million at worldwide box offices on its first day in theaters as fans around the globe turned out in strong numbers, according to Columbia Pictures.
Jones is in Bermuda for the 14th annual Bermuda Music Festival, which begins today, October 29. His show is billed as Quincy Jones and Friends, and features Patti Austin, John Legend, Wyclef Jean, Michael McDonald, James Ingram, Kenny Rogers and Erykah Badu. Jones, who will conduct, arrange and perform with the artists, also is planning a special presentation of Jackson’s “Thriller” on the final night of the event, which happens to be Halloween.
The producer’s lifetime contributions to culture and humanity also will be honored during the festival when he is presented with the African Diaspora Heritage Trail Award. After helping to raise $63 million for Ethiopian Famine Relief with “We Are the World,” Jones continued his worldwide charitable efforts through music, in collaboration with institutions such as Harvard University, entertainers including Bono and Oprah Winfrey, and through his Quincy Jones Foundation.
