Wayman Tisdale Inducted Into College Hall Of Fame, Along With Magic And Larry

Wayman TisdaleOn Sunday (November 22), the late Wayman Tisdale was posthumously honored as he was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in Kansas City, Mo., for his outstanding basketball career at the University of Oklahoma. Tisdale’s wife Regina accepted the award for her husband, who was inducted with some pretty good company – Michigan State’s Magic Johnson and Indiana’s Larry Bird, who of course who would go to win multiple championships and Most Valuable Player honors in the NBA.

Tisdale was a three-time All-American at Oklahoma during the Billy Tubbs era of the 1980s and won a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics. He averaged 15.3 points during his college career before playing a dozen years in the NBA. When his basketball career ended, Tisdale focused on his love of music, and the bassist recorded eight smooth jazz CDs and had numerous hits on the Smooth Jazz Top 20.

“One of the best things for me is that he was aware of this,” Regina Tisdale told the Associated Press. “He was excited, called a few people after he found out and told the people who called him: ‘We’re going in with a pretty good class.’ ”
