John Mayer Debuts At No. 1, With Norah Jones At No. 3

John MayerGuitarist and vocalist John Mayer has scored his second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart as Battle Studies debuts with 286,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Mayer’s first No. 1 came with Heavier Things in 2003, when it debuted with 317,000. Mayer’s last CD, Continuum, which featured the Smooth Jazz Top 20 hit “Waiting on the World to Change,” entered the chart at No. 2 with 300,000 in 2006.

Norah Jones, meanwhile, entered the charts at No. 3 with The Fall, which features the Smooth Jazz Top 20 hit “Chasing Pirates.” Jones’ fourth CD follows three straight No. 1s. Her last release, Not Too Late, debuted atop the list with 405,000 in February 2007.

Jones will be appearing December 15 on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and December 16 on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
