Thanksgiving Abounds With Music, Including A Performance By Sting
On Thanksgiving today (November 26), Sting will be featured on a brand-new edition of Great Performances on PBS as he performs music from his latest CD, If On A Winter’s Night. The CD is inspired by his favorite time of year and features two original compositions as well as traditional songs, carols and lullabies from the British Isles. The album features smooth jazz trumpeter Chris Botti.
Sting: A Winter’s Night captures the artist in the evocative setting of one of England’s most famous cathedrals. Standing on a peninsula overlooking the River Wear in County Durham, the 1,000 year-old UNESCO world heritage building is an iconic landmark of Northern England. Inside, the architecture and atmosphere are equally as inspiring, and it is in this setting that Sting is joined by guest musicians, including local Newcastle artists Kathryn Tickell (Northumbrian pipes and fiddle), Peter Tickell (fiddle) and Julian Sutton (Melodeon).
This morning’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC in New York will feature performances by Carly Simon, Cyndi Lauper, Andrea Bocelli, Ziggy Marley, Billy Currington, Gloria Gaynor, Katherine McPhee and the Roots.
The CBS broadcast of The Thanksgiving Day Parade has Reba McEntyre, the Broadway casts of West Side Story and Ragtime, and the off-Broadway cast of Dreamgirls.
