Soul Train Music Awards Airing Tonight
Today (November 29), the BET and Centric networks will air an edited version of the Soul Train Music Awards, which was held earlier this month. During the show, smooth jazz vocalist Maysa triumphed in a new category as she earned her win in the Soul Approved/Underground category. Maysa, whose latest CD Metamorphosis features smooth jazz stars Najee and Nick Colionne, frequently performs and records with the U.K.-based group Incognito.
Beyonce won three of the four categories in which she was nominated, including Best R&B/Soul Artist Female, Song of the Year for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” and Album of the Year for I Am…Sasha Fierce. Jamie Foxx won Record of the Year (Songwriter Award) for “Blame It.” Michael Jackson posthumously won the Entertainer of the Year award, as he was the sole nominee.
Chaka Khan and Charlie Wilson both received the Icon Award for their contributions to the music industry. The Atlanta event, hosted by actors Taraji Henson and Terrance Howard, featured performances by Toni Braxton, Robin Thicke, Chrisette Michele and Ryan Leslie, among others.
