For the first time since her 2003 CD Between the Sun and The Moon, Brenda Russell is releasing new original music, and it’s available now directly from brendarussell.bandcamp.com. Russell’s new CD is titled This Is Real Life and will be offered in 2010.

Available now for 79 cents each are the title track and the song “Open Heart, Open Mind.” Fans can also download those two songs plus her new original holiday song, “Christmas Card,” all for $2.

“Christmas Card” is also available on its own as a free download for those who sign up for Russell’s mailing list and newsletter on her website. “Christmas Card” became available on Friday (November 27) to coincide with the beginning of the 12th annual Dave Koz and Friends: A Smooth Jazz Christmas tour. This year’s tour is a reunion of the original show featuring Brenda, Dave Koz, David Benoit, Rick Braun and Peter White. Those attending the shows will also have the chance to pick up a download card at the venues’ merchandise tables that will provide a code to retrieve the song online.

Russell has spent much of the past six years working on the score and songs of the hit Broadway show The Color Purple. A traveling version of the musical is still playing in various cities nationwide.
