David Lanz Re-Imagines Beatles Songs For His Upcoming CD

David LanzTwenty-one years ago, pianist David Lanz released an album called Cristofori’s Dream that went to No. 1 on Billboard’s New Age charts and produced the early smooth jazz hit single of the same name. Now Lanz, whose 2004 CD The Good Life featured the smooth jazz hit single “Big Sur,” is set to release his latest project.

“After a year of writing, arranging, recording, traveling, sleepless nights and endless days in the studio, I am so happy and relieved to announce my new recording is complete and ready for you to enjoy,” Lanz says.

It’s not something you’d expect. The CD is “Liverpool…Re-Imagining the Beatles.” “If there hadn’t been a Lennon and a McCartney, there would have been a very different David Lanz,” says Lanz, who will be performing songs from the CD December 22-23 at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley in Seattle. “They have been hands-down the most influential composers and musical mentors in my life. The melodies on Liverpool, for the most part, were all composed by John and Paul, but filtered through my own personal musicality, so it doesn’t sound like a Beatles record. It’s totally me, just re-imagined, with a little help from my friends and all the very talented featured musicians and technicians involved.”

You can listen to the song samples on Lanz’s website. You can also pre-order the CD, to be released soon, at davidlanz.com.
