Most Popular Song Of The Decade Was Also A Smooth Jazz Hit
Billboard magazine reports today (December 11) that Mariah Carey had the most popular song of the decade – “We Belong Together” from her 2005 CD The Emancipation of Mimi. Among the song’s 10 co-writers were Carey and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. The No. 1 pop song, which also was a smooth jazz hit single, picked up Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
The top album of the decade, reports Billboad, was ‘N Sync’s No Strings Attached, which sold more than 10 million copies. Rapper Eminem was named the top artist of the decade, while rock group Nickelback was named top group. As reported earlier this week, Norah Jones had the No. 3 CD of the 2000s, according to Nielsen Soundscan, with 2002’s Come Away With Me.
Meanwhile, Carey announced today that she will begin her first tour in three years on December 31 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The Angels Advocate tour will continue through February 27 in Las Vegas. Tickets for the majority of the tour will go on sale on Dec. 19.
The eight-week, 19-city tour is in support of Carey’s latest album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.
