Phil Collins And Genesis To Enter Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

GenesisToday (December 15) the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland announced its next class of inductees, which includes the group Genesis. Genesis began in the late 1960s as a progressive-rock group led by Peter Gabriel and evolved after his 1975 departure into a more of a pop group, with drummer Phil Collins taking over as lead singer. Some of the band’s more familiar songs include ”Follow You, Follow Me,” ”Tonight Tonight Tonight” and ”Invisible Touch.”

In 2007, Collins and the 1977 to 1996 lineup of Genesis – which included keyboardist Tony Banks and bassist and guitarist Mike Rutherford –embarked on the highly successful Turn It On Again worldwide reunion tour.

Also announced as inductees Tuesday were Swedish pop group ABBA, reggae superstar Jimmy Cliff, British group the Hollies and American group the Stooges, led by Iggy Pop.

The Rock Hall also announced that its Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers would go to music industry executive David Geffen, the songwriting teams of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, and individual songwriters Jesse Stone, Mort Shuman and Otis Blackwell.

The hall’s 25th annual induction ceremony is scheduled for March 15 in New York City.
