Booker T. Jones Leads White House 'Memphis Concert'

Memphis soul legend Booker T. Jones was the Musical Director for a special Memphis Soul Concert at the White House in Washington, DC last night (April 9).  The event was the 10th concert to be hosted by President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for the "In Performance at the White House" series.  The tribute to the Memphis Soul sound featured performances by Mavis Staples, Sam Moore of the famed group Sam & Dave, Steve Cropper, Justin Timberlake, Queen Latifah, Ben Harper, Cyndi Lauper, Charlie Musselwhite, Alabama Shakes and William Bell.  Jones recorded for the legendary Stax Records label with his band Booker T. & The MG's along with artists synonymous with the Memphis sound like Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, William Bell and Isaac Hayes.  The full concert will air on PBS on Tuesday, April 16.
