Soul-funk icon Chaka Khan is back on the road performing again following a month-long doctor's ordered vocal rest earlier this summer.  The Grammy Award-winning singer was in Philadelphia last night (July 11) and will head to Miami, Florida on July 20.  She will be in Chicago on July 27 for a street naming ceremony as she participates in the unveiling of Chaka Khan Way on S. Blackstone Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets.  Khan will then perform a free outdoor concert at Millennium Park celebrating "Chaka Khan Day" on July 28.  Chaka shares, "Chicago is where it all began for me. Even before Rufus, I sang with local groups such as The Babysitters, Lock and Chain and Lyfe. As a young girl, growing up on Carpenter Street, my parents introduced me to a very rich musical foundation—starting with jazz and opera. I owe this city so much, and I’m deeply honored by this tribute. Chicago will always be a part of me, and with this street naming, I now will always be a part of it. It’s a blessing to me and my family.  We are profoundly grateful to all the people of Chicago.”  Khan is celebrating her 40th anniversary in the music business and plans to release a new album entitled The iKhan Project later this year.
