Happy Birthday David Sanborn

Birthday wishes to saxophonist David Sanborn who is celebrating today (July 30).  David was born in Tampa, Florida and grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri.  He suffered from polio as a young child and took up the saxophone on the advice of is doctor to strengthen his lungs.  Sanborn credits Hank Crawford, who was a member of Ray Charles' band, as a major influence on his music.  When he was only 14, he got his start playing with blues musicians Albert King and Little Milton.  David has released 24 albums and won six Grammy Awards and his work as a sideman include stints with David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Kenny G, Al Jarreau and George Benson among many others.  David is currently on the road for his "The Dream Tour" along with Brian Culbertson and will perform in Dallas, TX on August 9.
