Birthday wishes to Grammy-nominated keyboardist, composer and record producer Jeff Lorber who celebrates today (November 4).  Jeff was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and began playing the piano when he was four, eventually joining several R&B bands.  He attended Berklee College of Music where he studied and fell in love with Jazz.  He formed his first band, The Jeff Lorber Fusion after moving to Portland, Oregon and the group released their debut self-titled album in 1977.  In 1980 they released the album Wizard Island, which introduced Kenny G on saxophone.  Jeff launched his solo career in 1982 with the album It's A Fact and then took a break from recording to concentrate on his producing work from 1986 to 1991.  Jeff's recent credits include co-writing several songs with jazz legend Herb Alpert for his upcoming album Steppin' Out, due out on November 19.  He released a new Jeff Lorber Fusion band album entitled Hacienda on August 27, 2013, featuring core members bassist Jimmy Haslip and saxophonist Eric Marienthal.  The band is currently on tour performing on board the Capital Jazz SuperCruise through November 10.
