Happy Birthday John Legend

Dec 28 2012

Birthday wishes to Grammy winning singer-songwriter John Legend who celebrates today (December 28).  Born John Roger Stephens in Springfield, Ohio, he began playing the piano when he was four.  John attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where he performed, and was President and Music Director, in a jazz and pop acapella group called Counterparts.  He launched his career backing artists like Lauryn Hill, Kanye West, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.  In 2001, while working with West, John picked up his new stagename "John Legend" after poet J. Ivy came up with the moniker.  In 2004 he released his debut album Get Lifted which included the Grammy winning single "Ordinary People."  Legend is currently working on his next album called Love In The Future due in 2013.  He is scheduled to perform at a Millennial Inauguration party being held at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC on January 19.
