Happy Birthday Sade

Birthday wishes to Brit and Grammy® Award winning British singer-songwriter Sade who celebrates today (January 16).  Born Helen Folasade Adu in Ibadan, Nigeria, she moved to London with her English mother following her parents separation.  She studied fashion design at St. Martin's School of Art in London and joined the funk band Pride in 1981, performing in and around London.  Sade signed her first record deal with Epic Records and released her debut album Diamond Life in 1984.  The album contains her signature song "Smooth Operator."  In 2002, Sade was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to popular music, receiving the honor from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.  Her latest album, Bring Me Home - Live 2011 is a CD/DVD set showcasing her successful 2011 tour in support of her album Soldier of Love released in 2009.  That tour earned Sade a spot on the Forbes World's Highest-Paid Musicians 2012 list, coming in at number 25.
