Happy Birthday Smokey Robinson

Feb 19 2013
News

Birthday wishes to Motown legend Smokey Robinson who celebrates today (February 19).  Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan Smokey got his start in music forming The Miracles while still in high school.  The group met songwriter Berry Gordy in 1957 and after some difficulties with money, Robinson encouraged Gordy to launch his own label.  Smokey Robinson and The Miracles became one of the first acts to sign with Motown Records.  Robinson's prolific songwriting took center stage as he produced 26 Top 40 hits with The Miracles including their number one hit "Tears of a Clown."  Currently, Smokey is getting ready to premiere his own line of clothing with a fashion show this Saturday, February 23rd, on the eve of the Oscars in Los Angeles.  The singer has teamed with late boxer Joe Frazier's tailor, James Andrew, to create a signature collection of suits and casual sportswear. You'll find The Smokey Robinson Collection exclusively online at www.JamesAndrewClothing.com.
