Herb Alpert Releasing New Album 'Steppin' Out' Nov. 19

Oct 09 2013

Legendary musician, record executive and fine artist Herb Alpert will release a new album entitled Steppin' Out on November 19, 2013 via Shout! Factory.  The Grammy Award winner offers up a fresh take on a collection of American Songbook standards including the Irving Berlin hits "Puttin' On The Ritz" and "What'll I Do."  Alpert is joined on the album by his wife, Grammy Award winning singer Lani Hall.  New compositions include four songs written with Jeff Lorber and Bill Cantos, the laid back "Green Lemonade," "Jacky's Place" and "Migration" both featuring Hall on vocals, and "Cote D'Azur."  The first single from the album is Alpert's updated version of the Irving Berlin classic "Puttin' On The Ritz."  He shares, "From out of the blue, I found myself humming this great standard song, 'Puttin' On The Ritz' by Irving Berlin, and I wanted to find a new way to record it like it hadn't been heard before.  Working with my nephew Randy 'Badazz' Alpert, we put it in an unusual dance-type setting that I feel gives it an international appeal.  The track is fun, upbeat and unique.  I've always felt that if a song is fun to play, it will be fun to listen to...and it was fun to play."  Herb has released a video for the tune featuring the Emmy Award winning team from So You Think You Can Dance, Napoleon and Tabitha D'uomo, and a cast of top dancers.  Check out the video for "Puttin' On The Ritz" here.
