Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter Join Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz

Legendary jazz musicians Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter have been named distinguished professors at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. Hancock serves as the Chairman of the Institute and this new position as distinguished professor marks the first time he will be involved instructing students on a regular basis. Hancock and Shorter, both multiple Grammy® winners and NEA Jazz Masters, will teach the Monk Fellows throughout the academic year. The 2-year, graduate level class is part of a new partnership between the Monk Institute and UCLA and these students will be the first to graduate with a Masters in Jazz Performance from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.
