John Legend for Marvin Gaye Tribute |
| Feb 01 2012 |

John Legend is teaming up with the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. for their program "What's Going On... Now," a tribute to the late Marvin Gaye. What's Going On was released on Motown Records in 1971 and Gaye was hailed for addressing the social issues of the late '60's and early '70's. The program will encourage today's young artists to address current social issues with their art. Legend surprised students from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts who were rehearsing at the Center Tuesday, when he walked on stage and began playing the piano and singing with them. Legend plans to recreate Gaye's 1972 performance of the album with two concerts in May along with the National Symphony Orchestra and other performers.
