Miles Davis Biopic Moves Forward

Award winning actor-producer Don Cheadle has been working on a Miles Davis biopic for the past several years and according to Screen Daily, the project is moving forward.  The article reports that Cheadle has secured financing from Daniel Wagner's BiFrost Pictures and the international film financing, sales and distribution company, IM Global in on board.  The project takes the next step as it is presented at the American Film Market (AFM) in Los Angeles, kicking off in Santa Monica, CA on Monday, November 6.  Legendary musician Herbie Hancock, a friend of Davis' and a member of the highly acclaimed Miles Davis Quintet, has joined as executive producer and musical supervisor.  Cheadle will take on the lead role playing Davis, while actors Ewan McGregor and Zoe Saldana are reportedly in discussions to join the project, entitled Shoot The Trumpeter.  Cheadle was quoted by Indiewire in 2010, “We’re trying to do what Miles Davis would have wanted us to do, which is approach it as artists with his life as the canvas. In being successful, some people say he sold out, but it’s the opposite. You can stay in one place forever and try to make the same money from the same core fans, but saying to your audience, ‘I’m going here now, come along or don’t,’ that’s brave, risky and dangerous. That’s what he did, and that’s what we’re trying to honor in this story -- that kind of spirit.”
