Sting Announces NYC Benefit Concerts

Jul 10 2013

Sting is putting the final touches on his first album of all new material since 2003's Sacred Love, as he prepares to release The Last Ship on September 24, 2013.  He announced he will perform the music from The Last Ship during 10 intimate shows at the Public Theater in New York City, to benefit their arts organization.  The concerts will take place from September 25 through October 9 in the venue's 260-seat Anspacher Theater, with tickets going on sale to the public on July 14.  A limited number of free tickets will be given out via a lottery for each performance.  Sting has been working on a musical entitled The Last Ship for the past three years and the songs included on the new album were taken from that project.  The show is a homecoming story set in a shipyard in Sting's hometown of Wallsend, England.  Producers hope to bring the musical to Broadway in the fall of 2014.
